Acceptable Use Policy

Scope

This Acceptable Use Policy applies to everyone who accesses or uses Connect, Intel or Social, and to all content and behaviour on the platforms, including profiles, posts, comments, messages, device names, nicknames and support requests. It forms part of, and is incorporated into, our Terms of Service. Where you use Social, our Community and UGC Policy also applies.

Prohibited conduct is listed below, together with the consequence that may follow. We assess each case on its facts and may take more than one action. For every category, we may also remove the offending content, preserve evidence, and report the matter to the police or another competent authority where we are required or permitted by law to do so.

1. Illegal activity

You must not use the Apps to carry out, facilitate, promote or conceal unlawful activity, including fraud, phishing, money laundering, the sale of illegal goods or services, the distribution of malware, or the violation of export control and sanctions laws. You must not use the Apps to plan or commit a criminal offence.

Consequence: immediate removal of content, suspension or permanent termination of your account, and referral to law enforcement where the law requires it.

2. Infringement of rights

You must not upload, post or share content that infringes the copyright, trademark, patent, design, database or other intellectual property rights of any person, or that violates their privacy, personality or confidentiality rights. This includes sharing pirated software, unauthorised copies of protected works, or another person's private information without consent.

Consequence: removal of the content, a formal warning, and suspension or termination of your account for repeated or serious infringements.

3. Harassment, threats and hate speech

You must not harass, bully, stalk, threaten or intimidate any person, and you must not incite violence or hatred against any individual or group on the basis of race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation or any similar characteristic. You must not engage in coordinated targeted abuse or dogpiling.

Consequence: removal of the content, a formal warning, and suspension or permanent termination of your account for serious or repeated conduct. Threats of violence may be referred to law enforcement.

4. Sexual content involving minors

You must not upload, request, share or promote any sexual content involving a person under 18, in any form, including text, images, video and generated or manipulated media. You must not use the Apps to groom a minor or to solicit sexual contact with a minor.

Consequence: immediate permanent termination of your account, preservation of evidence, and referral to the police and, where applicable, to the Norwegian National Criminal Investigation Service (Kripos) or the relevant authority in your country.

5. Spam and platform manipulation

You must not send unsolicited bulk messages, run automated or repetitive promotional activity, create fake accounts, buy or sell engagement, use misleading links, or otherwise manipulate rankings, recommendations, reviews or metrics. You must not artificially inflate or suppress the reach of any content.

Consequence: removal of the content, restriction of messaging or posting features, a formal warning, and suspension or termination of your account.

6. Reverse engineering

You must not reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble or otherwise attempt to derive the source code, architecture, data models or algorithms of an App or the Sammes platform, or bypass, disable or defeat any technical protection measure, except to the extent that such a restriction is prohibited by applicable law.

Consequence: a formal warning and immediate suspension or permanent termination of your account, together with any legal remedies available to us.

7. Unauthorised access

You must not access, or attempt to access, any account, system, network or data that you are not authorised to access. You must not probe, scan or test the vulnerability of the Apps or the platform, breach any authentication or access control, or launch a denial-of-service attack. Security research is permitted only under the terms of our security policy and its coordinated disclosure process.

Consequence: immediate suspension or permanent termination of your account, preservation of evidence, and referral to law enforcement where the conduct is suspected to be criminal.

8. Interference with connected devices and critical infrastructure

This section is particularly relevant to Connect. You must not use Connect to control, disable, disrupt, damage or gain unauthorised access to a connected device, system or network that you do not own or have explicit authority to manage. You must not use the Apps to interfere with critical infrastructure, public safety systems, medical devices, industrial control systems or utility networks, or to create a risk to life, health, property or the environment.

Consequence: immediate suspension or permanent termination of your account, immediate disabling of the relevant device integrations, preservation of evidence, and referral to law enforcement and the relevant sectoral authority where required.

9. Misuse of intelligence features for automated decisions

Intel provides insights, forecasts and recommendations for information only. You must not use Intel to make, or to automate, a decision that produces a legal effect or a similarly significant effect concerning an individual without a lawful basis, appropriate human review and any safeguards required by the General Data Protection Regulation or other applicable law. Examples include automated decisions about credit, employment, insurance, housing, education, access to essential services, or the allocation of benefits.

Consequence: a formal warning, restriction or disabling of the relevant feature, and suspension or termination of your account for serious or repeated misuse. Where personal data is involved, we may also be required to notify a supervisory authority.

10. Scraping and unauthorised extraction

You must not scrape, crawl, harvest or otherwise extract data from the Apps or the platform by automated means, and you must not use data obtained from the Apps to train or fine-tune a machine-learning model, except with our prior written permission or where a statutory right applies. This includes extracting user profiles, content, device data or platform metrics.

Consequence: a formal warning, technical rate-limiting or blocking of the offending access, and suspension or termination of your account.

11. Resale and redistribution

You must not resell, sublicense, rent, lease, redistribute or otherwise commercially exploit access to an App or the platform without our prior written consent. You must not use an App to provide a service to third parties, or to operate a competing product or service.

Consequence: a formal warning and immediate suspension or permanent termination of your account.

12. Sharing account credentials

You must not share your login credentials, allow any other person to use your account, or sell, transfer or lend your account to a third party. You must keep your credentials confidential and secure.

Consequence: a formal warning and suspension or termination of your account. Multiple or simultaneous use of a single account in a way that indicates sharing may result in immediate suspension while we investigate.

13. Circumventing payment

You must not circumvent, or attempt to circumvent, any payment process, subscription requirement, entitlement or usage limit, including by using false payment information, manipulating purchase flows, exploiting pricing errors, or obtaining paid features without paying. You must not interfere with the billing systems operated by Apple or any other store.

Consequence: a formal warning, reversal of the improper entitlement, and suspension or termination of your account. Suspected fraud may be reported to the relevant payment provider and to law enforcement.

How we enforce this policy

Depending on the seriousness and frequency of the conduct, we may take any of the following actions, alone or in combination:

Action	When it applies
Guidance	A first, minor or unintentional breach where a warning is likely to resolve the matter.
Formal warning	A breach that is not serious but indicates a pattern, with a clear expectation of corrective action.
Content removal	Any content that violates this policy, our Community and UGC Policy, or the law.
Feature restriction	Restricting posting, messaging, device control or intelligence features while we investigate or as a sanction.
Suspension	A serious breach, or an ongoing investigation where continued access presents a risk to others or to the platform.
Termination	A serious breach, a repeated breach, or conduct that endangers people, devices or the platform.
Referral	Conduct that is or may be criminal, or where reporting is required by law, referred to the police or another competent authority.

We aim to apply this policy consistently and proportionately. You may appeal an enforcement decision by writing to [email protected]. An appeal does not automatically suspend the action taken.

Reporting a violation

If you believe content or conduct on the Apps violates this policy, report it in the App where the reporting tool is available, or write to [email protected]. Please include the App, the account or username involved, a link or screenshot where possible, and a short description of what happened.
